| Daf-2 and C. Elegans Lifespan |

UCSF researchers probe in C. elegans the workings of the daf-2 gene, which when mutated doubles the lifespan of the worm. Daf-2 encodes a hormone receptor similar to those for insulin and IGF-1. Daf-2 also controls many other genes with broad-reaching effects, the mutant form inducing increased disease resistance and modulation of antioxidant systems. Science Daily Article
