A woman had her eggs collected and then put in a cryogenic fridge for a few months. They were thawed, fertizilized, and one of them implanted into her uterus. From this long-frozen egg she gave birth to a healthy baby. Having embryos survive being frozen for extended periods of time has broad implications, as when a woman passes her reproductive prime the probable health of children she gives birth to declines. If women are capable of freezing their eggs, and have them implanted and fertilized when they feel like having a child, they can have the healthiest baby possible even while being past their reproductive prime. This cryogenic freezing would also make it easier for women to donate eggs to couples with fertility problems.
